8. The BBC’s New Idents
Believe it or not we’ve had the same BBC one logo, the same videos of dancers in the rain, wheelchair dancing and Capoeira dancers for four and a half years, but this Saturday the BBC finally got round to changing them. Now we have hippos, bikes, footballers and kites going round a circle, added to the swirl affect on every programme advert and the BBC has become slicker than ever.
7. Freeview
The age old free market idea of more competitors having the ability to come into the market is really working in our favour. TV networks are all working hard to make sure they get the figures, which means more good films, better dramas and even more comedy. Although everyone is now pushing their branding (like the BBC’s `This is what we do` campaign) can be annoying, you should see what the Americans have to put up with.
6. Sunday Night TV
Top Gear has returned (and thankfully so has Richard Hammond) to our screens right before the new 4 part series Beyond Boundaries: The African Challenge. With Match of the Day 2 for the footie fans and another chance to see Extras you’d think that would be all, but there’s a double bill of the hilarious American comedy `Arrested Development` which has even had Charlize Theron as a guest this season.
5. The Decline of Reality Shows
With Big Brother finally finishing (however compulsive watching it was, we really should know better), and not too long till the X factor goes with it. Apart from the day time shows that are often so dull you consider working, and the surprisingly compelling `Strictly Come Dancing`, television Networks are finally coming to realize we want good quality TV.
